soon to hit DepED Cabanatuan City
OMI Reportorial Staff
Reprinted from: www.depedcab.ph
TWELVE PUBLIC ELEMENTARY schools in the Division of Cabanatuan City will soon benefit from the Text2Teach Project of Ayala Foundation, Inc.
This came up through a communiqué addressed to Supt. Malcolm S. Garma and sent by Ms. Marisse C. Catangay, Text2Teach Project Manager. The objective of the project is to improve the quality of teaching in the public elementary schools by providing mobile technology-enabled teaching tools that deliver instructional audios and videos for Mathematics, Science and English.
Since the inception of the project in 2003, there are already 406 public elementary schools nationwide which have received Text2Teach packages.
As specified in the implementing guidelines of the project, one Text2Teach package includes Nokia N95 cellphone installed with Nokia Education Delivery (NED) software and pre-loaded with around 400 educational audio-video materials in Mathematics, Science and English, a monthly prepaid load of P150.00 for one year provided by Globe Telecom, and an additional of P1,000.00 load for the downloading of updates, new programs and instructional materials.
The DepED and school-recipient’s counterpart is the provision of Text2Teach classroom, 29-inch TV set, TV rack, and security of the devices.
The cellphone unit included in the package has a TV output which can be connected into the TV set where educational materials can be viewed to facilitate learning among pupils.
To ensure the immediate launching and implementation of Text2Teach project in the Division, Supt. Malcolm S. Garma said that he would allocate an amount from the Special Education Fund (SEF) and MOOE for the purchase of TV sets and other materials needed as counterpart of DepED.
When asked about the selection process of prospective school-recipients, the Superintendent said that he would give priority to schools with low performance in NAT, far from the city proper, and have limited access to ICT-based instructional materials to help them in uplifting the quality of instruction.
Based on the latest communication between Ayala Foundation and DepED Cabanatuan City, the project will be presented to the prospective school-recipients on January 28, 2011, 10:00 a.m. at the Teachers Hall. The presentation will be led by Project Manager Marisse C. Catangay and Mr. JR Demecais, Senior Development Specialist of Text2Teach Project.

Running in its new format where news reports are coming from the schools and narrated by campus journalists themselves, this teleradio program hosted by Supt. Malcolm S. These video and news clips shall be composed and produced by the campus journalists through the guidance and supervision of the Media Bureau member who is in-charge in the area or district. As stipulated in the Division Memorandum No. 31, s. 2010, | the members of the Media Bureau are the school paper advisers in the 7 public secondary schools, media coordinators in the 4 districts, and other selected paper advisers in the elementary level.
“Let’s use this program as a training ground for our campus journalists in the field of broadcasting” said Supt. Garma. “This is also an opportunity where good practices from schools are reported and new innovations and programs are promoted to serve as inspiration, models and ABCs for other schools and school officials to emulate towards improving their own workplaces” he added. Supt. Garma is also toying the idea of including in the teleradio program a panel discussion on issues and concerns where teachers are in direct participation. He added that problems and issues involving administration and supervision of school administrators may also be taken up. Further modifications on the format of the teleradio program are expected to better serve its listeners and to satisfy the mission of DepED Cabanatuan City. |

'Unite our divided people' Teodoro
By: Rachelle B. Villegas, Division of Cabanatuan City
Reprinted from: RSPC Chronicle, Dec. 8, 2009 Issue FORMER DEFENSE SECRETARY turned presidential aspirant Gilbert Teodoro graced the opening of the 31st Regional Schools Press Conference and posed a challenge to the participants to unite our divided people, December 7.
During his inspirational message in the Gapan City Gym, he voiced out his | hopes that this generation of journalists, with the help of their school paper
advisers, will be responsible enough in imparting the news, in such a way that the truth would surface without the slightest hints of subjectivity. Teodoro quoted from the Constitution that journalists have the right to free speech and nobody should hinder the media from informing the public what must be made known. However, he added that this freedom is not absolute and that only what is true and is for the benefit of the majority should be divulged. Further, the former Defense Secretary said that journalists have equal power with politicians in the sense that the press could make or break a person. He said that this power could help in bringing together a nation that has been separated by different beliefs. He added that if this power would be used maliciously, it could create more confusion and chaos. He also exclaimed that the media are not only important because they give and find the truth and they also serve as a pillar to our country and contribute to triumph or fall of millions. In allusion to the Maguindanao massacre that involved the killings of several press people, Teodoro declared that campus journalists should not be fearful, but rather be vigilant of what is happening because they have an obligation to fulfill. In the end, he congratulated the RSPC participants for having made it this far in their field and expressed his confidence that they would evolve into responsible journalists who would be instrumental in unifying our country. |
