One hundred twenty second year high school teachers attended the Secondary Education Curriculum 2010 seminar-workshop held at the Teachers’ Hall for the plenary sessions and at the Honorato C. Perez Sr., Memorial Science High School for the parallel sessions by subject area on May 30-June 2..
EPS for English Dr. Teresita P. Bulandan said during the orientation that the seminar-workshop is the logical follow-through for the second year implementation of the SEC 2010 this school year.
“This seminar workshop is geared towards strengthening the capacity of the teaching force to accommodate the progressive integration of the new curriculum until its across the board implementation in 2015,’’ Bulandan said.
She added that through the seminar-workshop, the teachers are helped to “build a support network among themselves in sharing and polishing their pedagogical skills as they acclimatize” to SEC 2010.
SEC 2010 forms the core redesign of the delivery of education in the secondary level of the expansive ten-point educational reform set out by President Benigno Aquino III and of the DepEd’s flagship“Education For All” program which aims to put the Philippine educational system in sync with the international standards and in tune with the local economy.
As outlined in the four-day training matrix, the seminar-workshop will familiarize the teacher-participants with the theories and practice of Understanding by Design (UbD) as the framework of SEC 2010.
Marietta Dela Cruz, a master teacher of Mayapyap National High School, said she is glad to finally be initiated into the UbD framework after observing her colleagues in the first year level as they practiced it last school year.
“Disorienting sa una ‘yung design when you look at the tabled framework. Pero it became clearer as the first day of discussion wore on. Challenging ito. The new design for teaching and learning will call for teachers’ ingenuity again to make the most out of this (UbD),” Dela Cruz explained.
The training management team headed by the entire division promotional staff is aided by select teachers from the different secondary school in the division in lectures, workshops and facilitation.
